The Ogun State Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Basorun Muyiwa Oladipo says the soon to be held African Drum Festival is not a jamboree, but a way to promote the rich cultural values of the country.
Oladipo who stated this in Abeokuta on a live radio programme, debunked the jamboree insinuations, said the State was ready to host the rest of Africa, as the festival has become a flagship event in the continent.
"Some people have said it is more of a jamboree, and we say no, rather, it was conceptualised to revive our culture which is dying. We have brought in innovations like the conference, workshop and exhibition to be spearheaded by the Nobel Laureate, Prof Wole Soyinka with at least five Africans who have distinguished themselves in the art of drumming, this is to show our people that it is not a jamboree," he said.
He noted that notable monarchs like the Ooni of Ife, Alaafin of Oyo, Obong of Calabar, Obi of Onitsha and some Emirs from the Northern part of the country, are expected to grace the occasion.
Oladipo said the African Drum Festival was the intellectual property of the Ogun State Government which has been duly calendered.
“It is Ogun State intellectual property, African Drum Festival is registered, Nigerian Drum Festival, the progenitor, the father of African Drum Festival is also registered, " he said.
