NEPAD Trains 300 Nigerians In Various Skills

The New Partnership for Africa’s Development (NEPAD), has concluded training of 300 members of vulnerable groups and rural women in various skills.

At the closing ceremony of the skills acquisition workshop held in Abuja, the NEPAD CEO and Coordinator Princess Gloria Akobundu said that the programme was in line with the Nigerian government’s policy of empowering women and youth.

“President Muhammadu Buhari GCFR believes in empowering our women and youths to not only eradicate poverty but also to become employers of labour and fight corruption through Skills Acquisition Programs for the citizens as recently espoused by the CHAMPION Agenda on fighting of corruption in the last 30 AU Summit” said Princess Gloria Akobundu.

Starter packs were given to the 153, but the most outstanding participant and the 82 year old woman shared 100k, courtesy of the CEO.

Participants at the workshop were trained in bead making, cake baking, make up and other skills as part of NEPAD’s agenda to eradicate poverty, promote good governance and empower youths and women towards sustainable growth and development.

The NEPAD team will embark on an awareness tour to all states in Nigeria this year. The aim of the tour is to re-introduce NEPAD’s programmes in the country and “take its mandate to the door step of those at the grassroots” Akobundu said.
