The New Partnership for Africa's Development, NEPAD Nigeria CEO, Princess Gloria Akobundu has called for women empowerment which she says would in turn empower the nation.

The NEPAD Nigeria CEO made the call at a skills acquisition workshop organised for vulnerable groups and Rural women taking place at the Multipurpose Hall of the FCT Christian Pilgrimage Welfare Board, Abuja.
She emphasised that “empowering women is to empower a nation. There is no field where you will not be able to find a woman and it’s not just about jobs but when it comes to casual applications of life ,women and youth are always one steps ahead”.
Princess Akobundu also called for greater commitment to skill acquisition by Nigerians to solve lingering problems of unemployment and high poverty index in the country.
She urged the participants to make the best of the training session, which is being provided free of charge, including a starter pack that will also be given to participants at the end of the training.
“This is one of the many ways that NEPAD seeks to give expression to the vision of self-reliance and economic diversification of our dear President for all Nigerians” she said.
A participant at the event, Rita Izunwanne Onuekwusi, an 82 years old woman said age is never a barrier to empowerment.
Onuwkwusi who spent all her life in Britain, urged the Nigerian Government to do more in empowering women and youth to help eradicate poverty.
Mrs Justin Bala, a fulltime housewife thanked the organisers of the training for creating an avenue for her to deal with idleness.
Another participant, Mrs Bejuola Adekolarejo commended the efforts of NEPAD Nigeria, under the leadership of Princess Gloria Akobundu for the positive impact on their lives.
She noted that the only requirement for the skill acquisition programme was their time and zeal towards learning.

Director, Programmes Development and Implementation at NEPAD Nigeria, Enobong Abang said, the commitment to the reduction of extreme poverty through capacity building and empowerment of women and youths was a cardinal mandate of NEPAD, which the Nigeria Office, in line with the Change Agenda of President Muhammadu Buhari, was prepared to pursue with every zeal at its disposal.
He added that the development of such strong skills in fisheries, poultry, barbing and hairdressing, including tie and dye and baking, would go a long way at changing the incomes and livelihoods of households across the FCT.
He enjoined them to avail themselves of the opportunity provided by NEPAD Nigeria, in the duration of the programme, tap from the well of knowledge of very experienced professionals who had been engaged as Resource Persons for sundry areas of the training and capacity building exercise.
The training, which was originally slated to run for 5 days has been extended to accommodate more participants.
