AMOSUN CELEBRATES BIRTHDAY AMIDST AGED, PROMISES MORE DIVIDEND OF DEMOCRACY

Governor of Ogun State, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, has said that the elderly would continue to enjoy his administration’s support, with a promise to deliver more dividend of democracy to all citizens of the state.


Senator Amosun stated this during the “Uplifting the Aged” programme organised by the office of the Wife of the Governor to mark his 60th Birthday at the June 12 Cultural Centre, Abeokuta.

He noted that achievements recorded in the State so far were due to the benevolence of the Almighty God and the support of the people who had been patient and cooperative with his government, saying he could not have accomplished so much without their prayers.

“There could not have been any better gift for my birthday than the support l have gotten so far from the good people of Ogun State. By the help of God and prayers of our people, we can touch every facet of the economy”, he said.

The Governor added that his administration would fulfil its rebuilding mission and restore hope to the people of the State, through sustainable infrastructural development that would further advance the economy of the state.

In her remarks, the wife of the Governor, Mrs Olufunso Amosun noted that, the annual hosting of the aged on the occasion of her husband’s birthday was aimed at contributing her quota to improving the welfare and living standard of the aged as well as the needy.

She added that the aged were very important and deserve to be revered and adequately catered for, advising the younger ones to see the welfare of the senior citizens as their obligation and responsibility.

The programme had in attendance over 5,000 people with beneficiaries given monthly stipends and commodities for their upkeep, while the aged received free medical screening.

On behalf of the beneficiaries, Mr. Musa Sobowale, appreciated the Governor and his wife for their benevolence, particularly the monthly stipends being given to the elderly since 2013,  saying the administration had lived up to the expectations of the people, by providing infrastructure across the state.  He prayed for more strength and wisdom for them to finish well.

In the same vein, the Office of the wife of the Governor also made donations to Daniel Akintonde Model School, Adigbe for pupils with Special needs while vulnerable widows were also empowered with various items.
