The family of 20-year-old Favour Agbro has appealed to Nigerians for financial support to help clear about N7 million in hospital bills they said were incurred before her death.
In a video shared by the family’s pro bono lawyer, Awele Ideal, Favour’s mother said the family had exhausted its resources while moving her from one hospital to another in an effort to save her life.
She added that they also needed money to continue with matters related to the ongoing police investigation.
She said, “Please, Nigerians, I need your help. Please, I need you people to help us. The fifth hospital we took Favour to before she died, we are owing almost N7 million now. Everything we are about to do here also requires money because we have to go to all the hospitals we rushed her to before she finally died.
“And you know that once the police are involved in a matter like this, it requires money. Please, I beg you in the name of God. I just need your help. I don’t know how you will be able to help us, but I am her mother. Thank you.”
Speaking in the same video, Favour’s father also appealed for public support. He claimed the police had asked him to provide a vehicle to enable investigators visit the hospitals in Benin where his daughter was taken before she died. He said he could no longer afford the expenses.
He said, “Please, we need your help because they have taken our statement, and they are saying that I should provide a vehicle that they are going to use to go to Benin and the various hospitals we went to before she gave up.
“I don’t have much money again, as I can say. So, I need your help. I don’t have anything at hand now. Please help us. I am pleading.”
The father’s claim that the police asked him to provide a vehicle for the investigation has not been independently verified by Tribune Online.
Meanwhile, Tribune Online had earlier reported that Favour allegedly took her own life after drinking a toxic substance. According to the Delta State Police Command, she had returned home after she was allegedly raped and physically assaulted by Delta-based content creator Ifeanyi Ogbonna, popularly known as Odogwu Asaaba.
Police spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, said the case began after a petition alleged that Favour travelled to Asaba on June 1, 2026, following an invitation by Ogbonna to attend a content creation training programme he promoted on his social media platforms.
The police alleged that Ogbonna took her to a hotel, where he raped and assaulted her. Investigators said Favour later told her parents about the alleged incident and recorded a video describing the alleged assault and the emotional trauma she experienced before she drank the toxic substance. She later died despite efforts to save her, Edafe said.
The police subsequently arrested Ogbonna over the allegations.
Following his arrest, a video surfaced online showing the content creator apologising to Favour’s family, including her twin sister, and asking for forgiveness.
He said, “This is a terrible mistake; I’m ready to give up everything. Please forgive me.”
