Ogun: Lawyer petitions DSS over alleged interloper in Ijeja Monarchy, Fingers Balogun Egba


ABEOKUTA-- BIDBOL Solicitors and Advocates has petitioned the Department of State Security (DSS) over an alleged interloper, Chief Taiwo Sokunbi involvement in the monarchy crisis in Ijejaland, Abeokuta.

In a letter addressed to the State Director of Security, signed by R. Oshomoji Esq, it noted that the petition is imperative for the peace and security on Ijeja, saying that if left unchecked, it may escalate into bloodshed.

It also fingers the Balogun of Egbaland, Chief Sikiru Olatunde Atobatele as a conspirator in the scheme to install a non-indigene as the monarch, the move which according to information was rejected by sons and daughters of Ijejaland.

"Having failed in their bid to elect Chief Taiwo Sokunbi, they resorted to dividing ljeja Chiefdom into Two (2) which the people of ljeja land, the Baale's and Chiefs in ljeja, Egba that were not involved in their plot resisted the moves.

"Chief Solanke (Balogun of ljeja) and Chief Sodipo (Ekerin Balogun ljeja) according to unconfirmed information billed Chief Taiwo Sokunbi the sum of N10,000,000.00 (Ten Million Naira Only) and hired the service of High Chief Sikiru Olatunde Atobatele,the Balogun of Egba land. 

"Chief Atobatele superintendents over the Head of Ologun/Olorogun of ljeja land. As a result, he used his ranking to manipulate and pressurize the Alake of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Gbadebo into accepting their biddings", the petition reads

The petitioner who exonerates the Alake, however stated that "Our clients are not saying that Alake of Egbaland being the Paramount Ruler of Egbaland cannot divide, enthrone anybody but the person enthroned must have parental linage in that town specifically the male parent as stipulated by Ogun State Chieftaincy law.

"The Alake of Egbaland, Oba Gbadebo was not aware of the scheme that Chief Taiwo Sokunbi who was brought to him through a proxy, Chief Atobatele (Balogun Egba) was not actually from ljeja land".

It stated further that, Chief Taiwo Sokunbis parents are from lgbore Ntoji Compound Abeokuta, the same compound with Coker famiiy.

Also that Chief Taiwo Sokunbi and his twin brother Mr. Kehinde Sokunbi who works with GLO Nigeria Limited were born at lgbore Egba Village called SERIKI-SOTAYO very close to the Ogunmakin town in Obafemi Owode LocaGovernment area of Ogun State.

It also accused Chief Taiwo Sokunbi as a well known land grabber at Badore in Etti-Osa Local Government Area of Lagos State which according to law is not entitled to such an elated position in the public.

The petitioner however called on the Alake of Egbaland, Oba Aremu Gbadebo and other stakeholders in chieftaincy affairs in Ogun state and the DSS to investigate these allegations before "Ijeja community is turned into another Agodo"

It maintained that the findings of the investigation will further prevent breach of public peace and bloodshed in the community.
