Partnership with gov't, private sectors will take Youths out of violence - Oba-elect Macgregor


The newly approved Olu of Ilawo town in the Odeda Local Government Area of the state, His Royal Highness, Oba Olusegun Alexander Macgregor on Wednesday, appealed to state, federal governments, as well as captains of industries to prioritize more efforts at partnering communities towards warding off violence in the country. 

Oba Macgregor specifically urged heads of government institutions, captains of industries and well meaning members of the society to evolve an enduring system that will make Nigerian youths more gainfully employed towards being self-sufficient in order to guarantee communal peace and progress of the society.

MacGregor made the appeal wile addressing the over 200 Ilawo youths who converged at his palace yesterday from across the over 63 communities and 143 village under his domain to congratulate him on his emergence as the new Olu of Ilawo town, an ancient Egba settlement of Ogun State.

Noting that no community world over can achieve meaningful progress without empowering its youths towards self-sufficiency, Macgregor also emphasized that wealthy individual in the Nigerian society, particularly in Ogun State will be securing future peace of minds for themselves if they can see youths empowerment as necessary investment in their respective areas.

The Ila youths had in there hundreds, converged at MacGregor's palace to intimate him with challenges threatening their existence in the town prior to his emergence as the new traditional ruler of the ancient Egba settlement in Odeda Local Government Area of the state.

Speaking against the backdrop of community elders accused of selling family and other township landed properties for personal aggrandizement in Ilawo town, MacGregor emphasized that establishment of viable and enduring business ventures remains the proven panacea for taking youths off criminal activities and other social vices that are inimical to societal developments.

The youths' leader, Fatai Balogun, who spoke unbehalf of his colleagues, accused the community elders of conniving with other chiefs in the town to sell the people's farm along with all the crops to some Chinese Nationals intending to establish housing estates and there y re-sell the land to other buyers during the periods when the stool was vacant.

Balogun, who disclosed that the youths were already fed up with the situation and we're posed for communal uprising, however, pleaded with MacGregor to assist them correcting the injustices which he said almost chase some of them out of existence.

Commenting on their plights however, promised that he would not renege in his efforts at attracting meaningful developmental projects to the town, which he explained that he has been doing for the past 35 years in Canada and India among other developed countries where he is still doing businesses.

While charging them to abstain from any conspiracy that can jeopardize the progress of Ilawo town, MacGregor, who admonished the agitated youths to be at peace with everyone in the community, further solicited the cooperation of the Ilawo youths towards ensuring that peace reign supreme in the community.
