Flood: APC women leader, Betta Edu urges riverine community to relocate

The All Progressives Congress, APC, national women leader, Dr Betta Edu has called on Nigerians living close to or around riverine areas to exercise caution and possibly relocate to another place temporarily until after the rainy season.

Edu made the call, weekend, when she visited the Ebom community in Abi LGA of Cross River State which was badly hit during the week by flood and other natural disasters.

Edu, who spoke during a tour of the affected community, hails from the neighborhood.

She was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Cross River State Ministry of Health, Obol Iwara Iwara.

She said, “I received an SOS from one of our sons, Peter Enyievi, with several unpleasant pictures he sent to me on the current situation in Ebom community.

“My sincere sympathy goes to the entire Ebom community, especially the flood victims in this disastrous time. This flood may have washed away your properties and farm lands, but can certainly not wash away the hope, aspirations and confidence in your hearts.

“We have visited your community. We have seen the extent of damage for ourselves. We will try to escalate what we have seen to the appropriate authorities.

Director general of the State primary health-care development agency, Dr. Janet Ekpenyong, represented by Mr. Paul Egbung promised immediate healthcare outreach to address some health challenges faced by the affected people.

Responding on behalf of the flood victims and the entire Ebom community, the Town Council Chairman, Chief George Nkanu Egwu thanked the APC National Women Leader, Dr. Betta Edu, and the State health authorities for their kindness towards the Ebom people.

He called on the federal and State government, including relevant agencies with environmental-related interventions, to come to their rescue.
