Nigeria's ambassador to Greece, Nimi Akinkugbe, has shared a video of herself walking her son down the aisle on his wedding day recently.
In a post shared on her Instagram page, Ms. Akinkugbe said she was honored when her son reached out to her prior to his wedding day to ask her to walk him down the aisle. She said she was honored to accept his request.
Posting a photo and videos online, she wrote;
Traditionally, the role of the Mother of the Groom is much more limited than that of the mother of the bride. It’s usually at the discretion of the couple.
It was thus such a pleasure to receive a lovely message from my son on 23rd March asking if I would like to walk with him down the aisle! I’m more used to the groom walking with his best man, but i’ve never said yes so fast!!
It was one of the most special moments of my life being escorted by my son to my seat in the front row and then on to his position ready to receive his beloved Rekha!We were followed closely behind by my husband and the bride’s mother. A lovely touch.
I walked with the confidence that his choice of a life partner, our beautiful daughter Rekha, is perfect, by God’s Grace.
Choice of music for our mother-son dance was a no-brainer. “Blessed” by @wizkidayo!
I feel truly blessed and pray that God will continue to bless their union and keep them through life’s journey.
