RT. HON. ADESEGUN ABDEL-MAJID ADEKOYA, ATTACKER, PRESENTS ANOTHER GROUND-BREAKING BILL

ABUJA — The Deputy Minority Whip, House of Representatives, 9th Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adesegun Abdel-Majid Adekoya, today, Wednesday, 9th June, 2021, on the Floor of the House as he presented the Lead Debate on a Bill for an act to Establish the Nigerian Para-Military Academy, Ijebu-Igbo, Ogun State, with the powers to award its own degrees in accordance with academic standards prescribed by the National Universities Commission and other matters connected with it.

According to Wale Adenaya, Senior Legislative Aide, Office of the Deputy Minority Whip, The Bill was immediately passed for second reading with the majority of members present voicing agreement with the contents of the Bill.

The Bill, when eventually assented, shall among other things, provide each officer cadet with a broad, balanced curriculum, consisting of Paramilitary and academic training, general, and professional Para-Military education designed to serve as a foundation for his progressive development as an officer in the Para-Military of Nigeria.
It also will prepare officer cadet to earn degrees in those disciplines which are of special interest to the needs and aspirations of the Para-Military Academy of Nigeria. In the same vein, the Officer Cadets of various Services will in the course of their studies experience greater bonding which will in turn forestall needless frictions.

It is hard to believe that of all the existing TEN Degree-Awarding Military Institutions in Nigeria, none can be found in the South West region of the country. When established, more sustainable peace and development will be assured as justice, fair play and equity become more strengthened.

This Academy is to seek the interest of all Paramilitary Services: the Nigeria Correctional Service, the Nigeria Immigration Services, Nigeria Customs Services, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, National Drug Law and Enforcement Agency, Nigeria Federal Road Safety Commission and the Fire Service. So, this Academy shall be an all-encompassing Institution that caters for the Interests of all Para-Military Services in Nigeria. It has a greater value and deliverables as it shall have a wider scope than any other University that seeks the interest and concern of just a unit of these Services.

Indeed, Aremo Ebumawe of Ago-Iwoye, Rt. Hon. Adesegun Abdel-Majid Adekoya has once again proved that he is able, capable and ready at all times to stand up and be counted as far as parliamentary representation is concerned. This Bill, when it becomes an Act, hopefully shall attract applause the same way the Harmonized Retirement Age for Teachers Bill, 2021 which he sponsored did.
