Ogun NUJ allays fears of members, warns trouble makers to stay off Secretariat

The Nigeria Union of Journalists, Ogun State Council reiterates that the Soji Amosu-led State Executive Committee remains the only duly constituted, authentic and legally recognised executive of the Union in the state and urges teeming members to disregard claims to the contrary.

In a statement signed by the Secretary of the Union, Comrade Ayokunle Ewuoso, Ogun NUJ states that its clarification became imperative following desperate moves by some bad eggs and disgruntled elements to foment trouble at the State Secretariat of the Union.

It maintains that the National Executive Council (NEC) of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, which met on Friday, April 16, 2021 at Asaba, Delta State, has no power to and did not even upturn the valid judgement of the National Industrial Court of Nigeria, NICN, Ibadan, as pronounced on February 24th, 2021 in respect of the Ogun NUJ leadership.

The statement added that the NEC, which is part of the judgement debtor in the suit, lacks the power and authority to vitiate the decision of the court as any attempt to do so would amount to committing criminal contempt of the said court.

Ogun NUJ, therefore, advises the NEC and its proxies and privies to wait for the decision of a higher court rather than embarking on fruitless pursuit.

The Union also allayed the fear of its members, saying the Soji Amosu-led Executive remains intact. It enjoins law-abiding members to continue to support the State Executive in its bid to rid the Union of the leprous hold of a few disgruntled elements.

Ogun NUJ also warns all trouble and mischief makers to stay off the Union Secretariat as it would not hesitate to wield the big stick of the law against any misguided person (s) hiding under phantom NEC directive to take laws into his/her hands.

The Union enjoins all members to go about their normal and lawful activities without any fear of molestation and harassment as those who make peace impossible would face the wrath of the law accordingly.
