The Ogun Government says it has linked 1,065 young cassava production farmers with credit facilities to the tune of N234.6 million.
Dr Samson Odedina, the State Commissioner for Agriculture, made this known in a statement on Tuesday in Abeokuta.
According to Odedina, each of the 1,065 farmers from 20 Local Government Area of the state, was given N220, 273 in order to sustain food security in the state.
“The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), in collaboration with Wema Bank Nigeria, Cassava Growers Association and Ogun State Anchor Borrowers Programme, linked the third batch of Young Cassava Production Farmers to credit of N234.6 million.
“These farmers will also be linked to inputs (herbicides, agrochemicals and improved planting materials), and guaranteed markets.
“This third batch is for young people, and the Governor of Ogun, Dapo Abiodun, had approved land clearing for in nine locations in the state,” he said.
The commissioner identified some of the 20 locations to include: Apojola in Odeda LGA; Asa in Ewekoro LGA; Ojoowo/Ijebu Igbo in Ijebu North LGA; Omogbawojo in Odogbolu LGA; and Pagbonrin in Imeko-Afon LGA.
Others are: Itoro in Yewa South LGA; Ojere Village in Obafemi Owode LGA; Ikenne Dairy Farm in Ikenne LGA; and Obafemi Town in Obafemi Owode LGA.
He said that the fund would be utilised by the beneficiaries to fund items and other operations.
The commissioner said this was according to the Economics of Production (EOP), and other terms of the facility, as approved by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the Farmers’ Organisations.
Odedina said the giant stride was part of the continued resolve of Ogun State Government to link farmers to credit, land, inputs, technology and assured market.
He said that it was part of Ogun State Agricultural Agenda of Agricultural Industrialisation, Food Security and Jobs Creation.
Odedina said that the additional 1,065 jobs created, had brought it to a total of 4,462 jobs created under the Cassava Value Chain intervention in the Ogun Anchor Borrowers Programme for 2020.
“Other registered farmers, including young people, who are yet to be linked to credit under the Anchor Borrowers Programme, are advised to follow and regard updates only, from the authorised source, Ogun Ministry of Agriculture,” he said.

Odedina said that work was in progress for farmers close to land clearing sites in Afon Farm Estate; Imeko-Afon LGA and Atoba, Remo North LGA.
The commissioner said that these had been verified by the CBN, with physical and digital geotagging.
He said that land clearing and preparation, verifications and geotagging by the State Ministry of Agriculture, CBN and other stakeholders, were ongoing.
