OGUN RAAMP COMMITTED TO 500KM RURAL ROADS CONSTRUCTION

The Ogun State Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project (RAAMP), remained committed to the construction of 500km rural roads within five to seven years scheduled for the first phase of the project.

The State Project Coordinator, Engr. Samuel Onabanjo, disclosed this at the sensitization meeting to educate stakeholders on Gender Based Violence (GBV), held in Abeokuta.

The RAAMP according to him, would construct primary and secondary markets to enhance farmers profitability, saying no fewer than ten river crossings would also be constructed.


"The rural roads construction being targeted has been prioritized in line with the terms of reference set by the policy makers at various levels of involvement. Moribund markets will spring up again and neglected primary schools will also come alive when the roads leading to and from this facilities are constructed”, he said.

In her address, the Project Consultant, Chioma Odueyi explained that violence against women was not limited to physical, but extended to any relational imbalance that could be exploitative, advising against psychological, emotional and physical assault on either the male or the female folk.

Contributing at the meeting, the Olu of Awowo, in Ewekoro Local Government Area of the State, Oba AbdulGafaar Tijani, advised that the construction of the Kurere Farm Estate Road from the highway should be extended to Isaga .


"My domains leads to Isaga in Yewaland, I will therefore make a passionate appeal that the Kurere Farm Estate Road be done to Isaga, to allow for increased commuting and socio-economic activities," the Monarch said.

Other stakeholders at the meeting included, Farmers Associations, Non-Governmental Organisation, Women Groups, Government functionaries, representatives of the National Council of Muslim Youths Organisation  (NACOMYO) and Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN).
