A former Chairman of Independent National Electoral
Commission (INEC) Prof. Attahiru Jega, disclosed that he is a disciple of Aminu
Kano while confirming that he has indeed joined Peoples Redemption Party (PRP).
Recall that LIB reported that the former INEC
Chairman joined the party to head its Committee on Strength, Weakness,
Opportunities and Threat Analysis. His appointment was announced in a statement
released after PRP held its 62nd National Executive Committee meeting in Kaduna
on June 22.
Confirming that he joined the political party, Jega told Punch “Yes, I am one of his (Aminu
Kano’s disciples,” but gave no additional detail.
Mallam Aminu Kano was a highly respected Nigerian
politician, reformist and teacher. He worked vigorously in support of
democratisation, women's empowerment and freedom of speech. In the 1940s, he
led an Islamic movement in the north of the country in opposition to British
rule.
