OGUN 2019: SEVEN POLITICAL PARTIES, OTHERS ADOPT SPEAKER

As the 2019 general election draws near, no fewer than seven political parties in Yewa North Local Government Area of Ogun State  have unanimously adopted the Speaker of the State House of Assembly Rt Hon. Suraju Ishola Adekunbi as their aspirant for the governorship race in the State.

The political parties that adopted the Speaker at the Mega rally organised by Ayetoro Solidarity Forum, (ASF) led by the Oga Ilu of Ayetoro, Chief Oyenitun Olateju at Ayetoro which was attended by traditional rulers, different interest groups and political leaders amongst others included the Accord Party, Action Democratic Party (ADP), All Progressive Congress(APC), Labour Party (LP), People Democratic Party (PDP), Unity Party of Nigeria(UPN) and All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).

The party Chairmen including Adekunle Dara of APC, Abel Olaleye of Accord Party,  Olaleye Kamilu  and Adelakun Abdullateef of ADP and UPN respectively, said the actualization of the governorship ambition of the Ogun West Senatorial District was long overdue, positing that the Speaker was eminently qualified to take over the mantle of leadership of the State from Governor Ibikunle Amosun come next year.

They described him as a true representative and formidable aspirant with cognate experience in grassroot politics and promotion of democratic tenets with capacity to sustain the tempo of the ongoing development across the State.

Earlier in his remarks, the ASF Chairman, explained that the forum being a socio-cultural  and non-partisan body undertook series of consultations with monarchs, the indigenes, residents and Community Development Associations in Ayetoro on which aspirant from the Senatorial District  to support, all the groups conceeded that the incubent Speaker of the State House of Assembly remained the right man for the job, hence, his formal endorsement as the gubernatorial aspirant presented by the people of the Local government.

"There are seven political parties in Ayetoro including Accord,  ADP, APC, APGA, LP, PDP and UPN. It was only the APC that responded that it has an Ayetoro indigene as a contestant for the governorship position in 2019. At the meeting of the forum held on 12th January, 2018 it was unanimously resolved to accept Rt. Hon Suraju Ishola Adekunbi from the APC as the only contestant from Ayetoro, Yewa North for the post of the Governor of the State in 2019", Olateju stated.

He also commended the Senator Ibikunle Amosun led -administration for its massive investment in the area of infrastructural development , particularly road construction and rehabilitation which according to him had given a face-lift to the entire State, particularly Ayetoro town.

Olateju attributed the present even development across the three Senatorial Districts as well as the giant strides in all sectors of the State economy to the harmonious relationships among the members of the legislature under the leadership of Speaker Adekunbi and other arms of government in the State.

He equally called for love and  unity among all Ayetoro indigenes and residents for the realization of more developments, while appealing to Governor Amosun to allow the contest for the State gubernatorial race be zoned to Ayetoro, just as he implored the people to spread the message of solidarity to other parts of the State to actualize the age- long dream of the senatorial district.

In their separate submissions, the Alaye of Ayetoro, Oba Abdulazeez Adelakun, Adokun of Igan Okoto, Oba Mukaila Salako, Alademeso of Igan Alade, Oba Gabriel Olalowo, Olu of Sawonjo,  Oba Michael Ayinde Oderinde, Chairman, Yewa North Local Government Council, Rasaq Adeagbo, Chairman of Iju LCDA, Rahman Alebiosu and his Ketu counterpart, Hon. Moses Adegbite, Iyaloja of Yewaland, Chief (Mrs)Yemisi Abass enjoined the people of the town to remain united and support Adekunbi’s aspiration.

They admonished the people  to take advantage of the Continuous Voter's Registration (CVR) exercise organised by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to get their permanent voter card so as to exercise their franchise in the comiing election.

In his response, Speaker Adekunbi in company of Honourables Olayiwola Ojodu, Victor Fasanya and Oludare Kadiri thanked his constituents for their continued support and the confidence reposed in him during the previous elections which gave him the opportunity to be the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, while appreciating his colleague-lawmakers for according priority to the development of the  State irrespective of their political affiliations.

Adekunbi reiterated the readiness of the Assembly under his leadership to sustain the peaceful coexistence among all arms of government for the socio-economic advancement of the State, adding that the present administration would continue to evolve more people-oriented programmes through all-inclusive government.

He reassured of his plans to consolidate on the gains of the present administraton if elected as the Governor next year,while admonishing the people of Ayetoro to shun acts that could jeopardise the chances of the Senatorial District in actualizing its  gubernatorial ambition. 

In attendance at the event were political functionaries from Ogun Central and East Senatorial Districts, traditional rulers, artisans, religious bodies, professional associations, market men and women as well as Igbo and Hausa communities amongst others.
