Construction work has begun on a federal airport project at Wasinmi, near Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.
About sixteen villages had been cleared for the airport project, whose construction is being handled by the a German construction firm, PW construction.
Director of safety and technical policy in the Federal Ministry of Transportation, Taliba Alkali, said the airport project is scheduled for completion within the next 18 months.
Alkali made this known to newsmen while visiting the project site in company of Governor Ibikunle Amosun.
He explained that his team from the aviation ministry is in the state to provide technical guidance, to ensure that a standard work is done on the project.
Governor Amosun said the state government is providing necessary support to ensure the completion of the project before he leaves office in 2019.
He expressed optimism that the federal government will provide fund in the proposed 2018 budget for the project.
