Ogun NUJ Condemns Governor Amosun Action

Nigeria Union of Journalists, Ogun State Council has berated the Governor of the state, Senator Ibikunle Amosun over what they described as indifferent attitude to the plight of body and members in the state.

In a letter signed by the Secretary of the union, Comrade Soji Amosun, and sent to the Governor today January 19, 2018, the council after the emergency meeting of the Congress frowns at the following: inability of the state to find any of their members worthy of appointment in his government; Stoppage of quarterly get together with him; invitation of Journalists outside the state to do the work those within the state are meant to do; non inclusion of their members in some ad-hoc committees for special duties or occasions eg the recently constituted task force on fuel scarcity; sponsorship of seminars and media tour in Ogun state for the state Council did not see the light of the day and reluctance of the state government to construct a new secretariat for Ogun NUJ while the government is insisting on the demolition of the one currently inhabited.

The NUJ Congress said it was exigent for the governor to look into the issues raised. Because according to the release the union has over the years demonstrated good companionship to the Governor in the course of his programmes and projects in the state.

Journalists in the state became fearful of possible neglect and unfriendly deposition of government when the State Commissioner for Information, Dayo Adeneye once told Journalists who demanded the support of the state in some of the projects of the council that he was not in Abeokuta to count the number of bridges being built by the State but to do business.

This, statement Journalists described as unexpected, unfortunate and could cause an indelible embarrassment to the government that has prided itself as one on a rebuilding mission.

True to his statement he has never been interested in Journalists in the state do except when there is a financial benefit for him.
