Nigerians have been charged to continue living in peace and unity irrespective of their differences so that the supreme price paid by the fallen heroes would not be in vain.
The Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun who gave the charge in an interview with newsmen at a reception held at the 35 Artillery Brigade, Alamala Barracks, Abeokuta, to round off the 2018 Armed Forces Remembrance Day, said though Nigeria was a multi-ethnic nation, the people should use it as a source of strength rather than division.
While acknowledging the contributions of the fallen soldiers at ensuring that the nation remain one and indivisible, Amosun commended gallant security personnel who are currently fighting insurgency for their efforts at bringing peace to the north-eastern part of the country, urging Nigerians to extend hands of fellowship to the families of the deceased.
On his part, the Brigade Commander, 35 Artillery Brigade, Alamala, Abeokuta, Brigadier General Basil Adonkie, assured that the Army would continue to support the families of the fallen heroes, charging serving officers and men to be upright in discharging their duties.
Governor Amosun earlier at the Arcade ground, Oke Mosan, Abeokuta inspected special parade which comprised officers and men of the Nigerian Army, Navy and the Legion .
The Governor alongside Military Commanders, Commissioner of Police and Paramount Rulers in the State took turns to lay the wreath at the cenotaph after which the fallen heroes were honoured with 21 gun salute.
The Governor later released 57 white pigeons as a symbol of national peace to represent the 20 Local Governments and the 37 Local Council Development Areas in the State.
