In line with requirements for the ongoing constitutional amendment by the National Assembly, the Ogun State House of Assembly has unanimously voted in support of three, out of the transmitted amended bills forwards to it by the upper chamber.

The approved amended bills were Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (4th Alteration) Bill no four (4) which deals with the Financial Autonomy of the State Legislatures , No (15) fifteen which is on the change of name of the "Nigeria Police Force to Nigeria Police" to reflect their core mandate and No. sixteen ( 16)- "Restriction of tenure of the President and Governor"; which seeks to restrict a person who was sworn in as a president or Governor to complete the term of the elected President from contesting for the same office for more than one term.
The approval was subsequent upon series of debates by the lawmakers on each of the amended sections through a motion moved by the Majority Leader, Adeyinka Mafe and seconded by Honourables Olawale Alausa, Olayiwola Ojodu and Yetunde Sogbein-Adekanbi respectively and supported by the Whole House through a voice vote.
Earlier speaking on the Financial Autonomy for State Houses of Assemblies, members including the Chief Whip, Idowu Olowofuja, Honourables Rasaq Oduntan and Olawale Alausa described financial independence of State Houses of Assembly as being long-overdue, as such level of independence was required to ensure effectiveness and promotion of democratic ideals.
The lawmakers later subjected the amendment process to voting, where all the three provisions debated received the nod of the Assemblymen.
In his response, the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Suraju Ishola Adekunbi remarked that the present amendment process was an important milestone in the annals of constitutional amendment procedure in the nation, assuring that works would be concluded on others in due course.
